simpleTapeStop is a free tape-stop and reverse effect from simpleSoundbank (maker of simpleSPU). Click Stop, hold a MIDI note, or automate the Stop parameter to slow a track to a halt like a tape machine switching off, then let go to spin it back up in time; a Reverse switch plays the last stretch of audio backwards instead.

simpleTapeStop is a free tape-stop and reverse effect from simpleSoundbank (maker of simpleSPU), built on the developer's own WebAssembly-compiled C++ tape engine, which you can also try directly in the browser on the product page. Click Stop, hold a MIDI note, or automate the Stop parameter to slow the track to a halt like a tape machine switching off, then let go to spin it back up in time.
Stop and spin-up times go up to 8 seconds each with a choice of curve, from a slow drift to a hard brake, and Sync locks those times to note values from 1/32 to 4 bars instead. A Reverse switch plays back roughly the last ten seconds of audio backwards; at full speed the plugin passes audio through untouched, reporting 8 samples of latency to the host.
Version 0.1.0, free with no account, trial limits, or licence key; an optional pay-what-you-want tip is available on the product page. VST3, AU and CLAP on macOS 11+ (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11, plus VST3, CLAP and LV2 on Linux x86-64.
