Dead Tape is a free lo-fi plugin from Dead Signal Audio with five controls: BITS and RATE crush the bit depth down to 4 and the sample rate down to 2 kHz, NOISE adds hiss, FILTER rolls off the top, and MIX blends the damaged signal back under the clean one so a whole bus or a single sound gets just a hint of age. A spinning cassette reel on the front tracks the input level.
About Dead Tape
Dead Tape is a free lo-fi plugin from Dead Signal Audio, the makers of Vantage and Ashfall, for sounds that need to feel old. It is built around five controls: BITS and RATE crush the bit depth down to 4 bits and the sample rate down to 2 kHz, NOISE layers in hiss, FILTER rolls off the top end, and MIX blends the damaged signal back under the clean source.
That range runs from a dull old tape at gentle settings to a broken toy at the extremes, and because MIX keeps the original underneath, it works as a light touch of age on a whole bus or a heavy effect on a single hit. A cassette reel on the front spins with the input level. It is a standalone release, not part of the free Nu series, with no trial, key or nag screen.
