About Live Grand Modern D
Live Grand Modern D is a Kontakt piano built from the developer's own recordings of a Steinway Model D, about eight years old, at River Studios in Cologne. It is set up for practice and live playing, with a microphone mix taken from the player's perspective.
Every key was sampled by a robotic rig: 20 velocity layers, separate pedal-down and una corda layers, repetition strikes, round robins, and release samples in six normal and six staccato layers that react to how fast a key comes up. Sympathetic resonance is sampled, and pedal and mechanical noises are included. The library is 15 GB.
Measured velocity curves cover dozens of Nord, Kawai, Roland, Yamaha and Studiologic keyboards with up to 55 dB of range, and a measurement file lets owners of other keyboards get a custom curve. Tuning presets, Scala temperaments and Funk-Resonance, Wah-Wah and Synth-Hall effects are also built in.
