Ashfall is Dead Signal Audio's pad, drone and swell instrument for heavy music: SWELL builds risers from half a bar to eight bars timed to land on the downbeat, LOCK keeps a tuned sub in key across 12 tunings (E standard down to drop A), and DUCK sidechains the pad to the kick or guitars so it stays out of the riff's way. Version 0.2 adds an arpeggiator and trance gate locked to your DAW's tempo, nine wavetables and an eight-slot modulation matrix. Six macros and a MORPH control shape 106 level-matched factory patches. Version 0.3 adds a playable 32-key keyboard with pitch and mod wheels, a HOLD key and an octave shift.
About Ashfall
Ashfall is a synth for pads, drones, swells and rhythmic beds in heavy music. Nothing in it is a sample or a loop; every sound is generated live, and the idea is that one held chord can build into a drop, turn into an arp, or chug along with a riff.
Layer A can be a saw, a pulse with width control, or one of nine wavetables (Triangle, Formant, Glass, Metal, Organ, Bell, Reed, Brass, Digital), each with twelve frames swept by POSITION. Up to seven voices stack and detune. The matrix sources include two LFOs, both envelopes, velocity, mod wheel, aftertouch, the swell and a per-note random value.
The arp runs up, down, up and down, random or as played, over one to four octaves with latch. The 16-step gate is painted by dragging, with adjustable smoothing. Mod wheel opens MOTION, aftertouch opens TONE, and the sustain pedal keeps the pad or arp going.
