About TeAr
TeAr (the Text Arpeggiator) is a free, open-source MIDI arpeggiator plugin for Windows, macOS and Linux (VST3). Instead of one fixed pattern, it runs a variable number of independent arpeggiator engines that can be added or removed at any time, each with its own text-based pattern, subdivision and MIDI output channel, for layered, polyrhythmic phrases.
The plugin is scale-aware: picking a root note and scale makes every engine conform to that harmony, and a 'Follow MIDI In' mode can move the root as you play. Patterns are written in a text language with modifiers for velocity, octave, pitch, gate and step duration, plus chords, Euclidean and binary rhythms, repeats and variations, with a built-in generator (including a Euclidean-rhythm button) for building new patterns quickly.
It's licensed LGPL-3.0, with source, issues and releases on GitHub, and the developer's own video demo and tutorial on YouTube show the pattern language and engines in use.
