TALLBOY

About TALLBOY

TALLBOY doesn't just crush the input. It follows the pitch and envelope of a line and replays it on a modeled four-channel handheld-console sound chip. Each of its three stages is a cartridge you insert or eject, and with all three out the audio passes through untouched.

CHIP 4CH has two pulse channels with four duty cycles, a 32-sample 4-bit wavetable, transient-keyed LFSR noise and 11-bit register detune. ARP + GLIDE plays up, down, up-down, random and chord patterns from 1/4 to 1/32, host-synced, over one to four octaves with glide up to 400 ms. CRUSH ROM offers 1 to 16 bits, rate division up to 64 with jitter, and a post filter.

There are no knobs: a D-pad and a dot-matrix screen edit six parameters per cartridge. It works best on vocals, bass lines and single-note leads. Drums have no clear pitch to follow, so the developer suggests running CRUSH ROM alone on them.
